New Season = New Charity and Campagin!

Posted by Nobody on 29 July 2019

What is our Hockey Club doing?

At the begining of last years hockey season 2018/2019, volunteers Megan Henry and Laura Massocchi came up with a scheme. This scheme involves picking a new chairty (alongside our club, 50/50 split of the total) to fundraise and campain for each season, a new way to help others. After the introduction of our fundraising scheme and success with Mind Cymru last season, we have chosen to continue the scheme and have decided on our new charity!
We are thrilled to announce that this season we have chosen...Wales Air Ambulance!!

As mentioned above, we previously raised for Mind Cymru in our scheme last season. The feeling we had as event organisers, volunteers and as a club once we counted the money and saw our total; was something words cannot describe. The money we had raised can help change a life and provide that all important help and care so desperately needed. Likewise by fundraising for the Wales Air Ambulance this season, we can again raise money to help those when they least expect it but so desperately need it.

By selecting a charity each season we are going to help more people in need, and helping spread awareness not only in our club, but also the wider community.

We want to show a united front in our club, one of the many reasons we started this scheme. Plus it will raise awareness from our junior teams to our seniors, as we are a hockey family who support one another who want to expand our love and care for eachother and share it out with the local and wider community.

Why Campagin and Fundraise for the Wales Air Ambulance?

Each Mission that the Wales Air Ambulance goes on, costs £1500. They need to raise £6.5 million each year, to keep running and keep saving lives.

They have currently attended 32,453 missons in total, 277 of these missions was carried out last month (June 2019). In June the helicopter was required 224 times, and the Rapid Response Vehicles, 53 times. The crew do have access to the Rapid Response Vehicles, however they are only used on missions where appropriate.

"Everyone one Wales deserves fast critcial care whenever and wherever they are" (Wales Air Ambulance).

Wales Air Ambualnce June Report and Figures

The chairty's purpose is to provide air cover to relieve illness and injury wherever and whenever anybody in wales needs it.

The charity's mission is to be on standby every day of the year. To protect human life through helicopter emergency medical services and air ambulance transfers across Wales.

Their vision is to provide a 24hour operation; so they can help people both day and night.

Wales Air Ambulance covers the whole of Wales every single day. Each year their helicopters attend around 2,500 missions, covering rural countryside and our bustling towns and cities. This includes the length of our Welsh coastline and across our vast mountain ranges. They have four airbase operations in Caernarfon, Llanelli, Welshpool and Cardiff which are ready to saves lives wherever nand whenever needed.

The Wales Air Ambulance can be there for anyone in Wales within 20 minutes! However, they don’t just fly patients to hospital – they bring A&E directly to you. They have critical care consultants and practitioners who have some of the most pioneering equipment and skills in the world,  including blood products and techniques developed in the Armed Forces. This means that each patient will receive advanced care before they even reach the hospital.

The Charity is completely funded by the people of Wales; they rely entirely on the public’s support to help keep the helicopters flying. The charity does not receive direct funding from the government and do not qualify for National Lottery funding. The helicopters are kept in the air through charitable donations, fundraising events and membership of their in-house Lifesaving Lottery. That's where we come in, as we aim to fundraise enough money to fund at least one mission!!

The Charity needs to raise £6.5 million every year to operate the service, with each mission on average costing £1500.

Our Club’s Fundraising Aim

As a club we will be donating half of this years fundrasining total to the Wales Air Ambualnce, which is our chosen charity for this season with the other half going to our hockey club's 'Access to Hockey' fund (more details to follow on this soon). We will be holding fun and engaging club events and activites, as well as planning several family orientated fundriaser events!

This in turn raises the clubs profile within the community and the awareness of the work carried out by the Wales Air Ambulance, within the club and the wider community.

All in hope that one day, more people who desperately need the appropriate and important care will recieve it. We hope to make a difference in people's lives and help develop and improve the work that the Wales Air Ambualnce carries out. After all, no one will ever know when we'll need them.
