Ladies 2XI-5/12/20

Posted by Nobody on 7 December 2020

On Saturday 5th December, as our 2nd’s opposition couldn’t field a team, they decided to use the pitch time to have a game between them! This lead to great competition between the team to try to score against their teammates especially as this was the squads first competitive full pitch game since March!

Both teams started strong with the red’s using the extra player to overload the backline and get an early goal on the score board. The black’s came back strong with Howell and Burton linking well in the midfield to create great play, feed the ball to the forwards to find the back of the net. The first quarter ended, 1-1.

The 2nd quarter started with both teams eager for a goal. Red’s forwards’ Harries and Burgess-Williams worked hard to use 1,2’s to get the ball into the ‘D’. However, Charnley and Routley held strong to keep the score 1-1.

At the start of the 3rd quarter, the black’s started very strong whilst hunting for a goal. Some strong balls down the wing from Mackenzie-Jones to Raymond allowed her to link up with Bevan. With the red’s tiring, the black’s used this to their advantage to get the ball in the back of the net. This was the wake up call the red’s needed with the two Davies’ sisters, Mari Davies and Cate Davies, sent lovely balls down the wing where one was picked up by Evans, who pushed the ball into the goal with ease, 2-2.

After a well needed refresher due to playing 7 v 8 on a full pitch, both teams were keen to finish the last quarter on a high.

Great transfers around the back from Rees, Pearson and Sioned Davies allowed red’s to keep possession to unlock the black’s defence. 1,2’s around black’s strong defence by Mari Davies and Harries allowed Burgess-Williams to finish the goal off. The same play down the other wing whilst using the extra player to overload allowed red’s to gain another goal, 4-2.

Rees, Pearson and Sioned Davies held strong in the back, stopping the black’s entering the ‘D’ and sending it back down the wings. However, with 2 minutes left, black’s were eager to get one last goal. A aerial ball from Charnley to Raymond in the ‘D’ allowed the game to finish with a last minute goal, 4-3.

The extra player proved a game changer in the end in a very back and forth match which tested the teams fitness, yet the girls were just grateful to get some game time. This game allowed the team to bond and keep building and learning as the quarters went on. This ensured that when the team have the opportunity to play a competitive friendly when it is safe to do so in the New Year, they’ll be rearing to go!
