On Saturday 7th March, Carmarthen 2XI welcomed Cardiff Medics 3XI for their league game.
After a great win the previous week, Carmarthen were eager to keep up the good work to get another win in the bag!
Carmarthen we’re eager from the first whistle, with forwards Siriol Richards , Charlotte Harries, Tirion Evans and Phebe Burton working hard up front to keep possession within the D. Within 2 minutes, Harries slotted the ball to Richards who was able to push the ball passed the keeper, 1-0.
This gave Carmarthen the confidence they needed, and they pressed hard for another goal, which was soon awarded when the ball hit the back board, 2-0.
Carmarthen kept the high intensity they had started the game with, with midfielders Lucy Davies, Lili Church, Mari Davies, Kate Howell and Catrin Davies worked tirelessly to push the ball up to the D, with this came another goal with Burton chasing the deflection and slotting the ball passed the goalie, 3-0.
Soon after this Richards dribbled the ball into the D for a one on one with the goalie who managed to put the ball in the far corner, 4-0.
Carmarthen we’re eager for another goal and this came from a few hits in the D before the ball hit the backboard, 5-0.
Another goal came when a hit from the top of the D deflected off the defender and into the goal, 6-0.
Just before half time Medics pressed hard on Kate Williams, Leia Thomas and Marianne Spratt who were strong in defence, after numerous saves and clearances Medics were awarded a short corner, which unfortunately found the back of the goal, 6-1.
After an inspiring talk at half time, Carmarthen came out fighting and played strong. Medics came out with fire and were eager to score, this meant Carmarthen worked hard to keep possession and played the ball up the pitch. They played a calm, clean game which gave them the chance to build on play and keep the ball in Medics half.
After numerous short corners the ball slipped from Davies at the top to Richards who hit the ball into the back of the goal, 7-1.
Carmarthen and Medics both awarded their player of the match to Siriol Richards for her hard work up front.
Carmarthen travel to Cardiff tomorrow to play Cardiff University 5th’s, and hope to keep the momentum from today.
