Ladies 2nd Vs Risca

On Saturday 1st February, Carmarthen 2XI travelled to Risca for their away fixture in the league.
With this being a re-match of last weeks challenging game, Carmarthen knew they had a tough game ahead with 11 players but were as determined as ever to give all they had.
Both teams started strong with Carmarthen putting a lot of pressure on Risca from first push back until they gained possession where they started to attack early on in the game. Lovely play by Mirain Morgan in centre midfield feeding the forwards the ball gave a lot of promising play for Carmarthen in the opening minutes. Forwards Charlotte Harries, Maya Davies and Megan Davies worked hard to find the back of the net but with a strong Risca defence holding their ground.
This made Risca increase speed of play and during this first half, Risca made Carmarthen work hard to get back after numerous quick breaks. Learning from last weeks game, Carmarthen dug deep to track back and work together to clear any attempts at goal with Delyth Rees taking a ball to the eye in the process. Half time whistle blew 0-0.
After a positive half time talk and a few minutes to re-fresh, Carmarthen were ready to go.
The second half started and Risca were now making Carmarthen work hard to stop lots of transfers and quick play down the wings. Defenders Delyth Rees, Leia Thomas and Ellie Routley communicated well with their teammates to clear the ball from the ‘D’ in a tense 10 minutes for Carmarthen. Goalkeeper Siriol Richards made some brilliant saves in this period but a flood of Risca players in the ‘D’ managed to use their numbers to get the ball in, 1-0.
This strong play from Risca did not deteriorate Carmarthen as they started hunting in pairs to defend and gain possession again. Kate Howell linked up well with wingbacks Rhian Moremon and Tirion Evans to make some promising breaks but with the lack of numbers and the wind starting to get worse, Carmarthen were unfortunate not to find the equaliser. Final score 1-0 to Risca.
Carmarthen awarded their man of the match to Mirain Morgan for her ability to create so much quick play for Carmarthen throughout the game.
Risca awarded their man of the match to Leia Thomas for her solid performance in the back throughout the game, stopping nearly every ball in her path.
