Club fundraiser for Mind Cymru 23/02/18

This event at first was just going to benefit the club and only club members could attend. However, after long discussions between Megan Henry and Laura Massocchi (Organisers) we came to a conclusion of expanding the event to non-members and we wanted to help someone else, not just ourselves.

Eventually we decided to help the Charity ‘Mind Cymru’. We decided to help fundraise for this extraordinary charity as well as our club due to mental health becoming a common issue in today’s society. Also, to show a united front in our club, letting our members know that its ok to talk about their thoughts and issues, plus it will raise awareness from our junior teams to our seniors, as we are a hockey family who support one another.

Therefore, the money raised will be split evenly between the club and the charity.

After Megan and Laura came up with a plan, they then put their ideas forward in the clubs committee meeting. The main objective was to get everyone on board with the idea and gaining their support and help. The committee were quick to except and said they’d help with anything we need such as resources etc. However, there was a debate on where we would have the event, although due to it being an open event we decided on the Athletic Rugby Cub.

After being given permission it was go time! Megan and Laura worked tirelessly sending email after email to local businesses for any donations for the event and in return we’d help advertise their companies. This was followed with phone calls to the venue holder and Mr and Mrs Davies who kindly agreed to call the Bingo! Everything was set in motion with constant advertisements on social media and handouts given to all members. Likewise, the club displayed posters in popular places and even contacted the Carmarthen Journal.

The night of the event quickly landed upon us, the room was decorated and prizes were set out, all we needed now was people to join us! To our surprise we had a full house!! Due to having so many people we knew that we had to deliver and provide a great night for everyone who came to support and take their chances at Bingo! Laura Massocchi communicated with the audience throughout the night, likewise Megan Henry joined in constantly crediting the businesses who donated fantastic prizes, whilst both were keeping the spirits high and watching for any cheaters!!

At the end of the night Laura expressed thanks on behalf of Megan and the club to everyone for coming and supporting the club and Mind Cymru. They might not have won a full house, but we certainly did!! The days that followed Megan and Laura were still stuck to social media displaying photos of our amazing event and contacting Mind Cymru.

The final amount raised was £1020. Resulting in Carmarthen Athletic Hockey Club and Mind Cymru both gaining £510 each!!

This event was a huge success and we can’t thank everyone enough!! This is the biggest fundraiser that the club has ever had, hopefully there will be more to follow!!
