Carmarthen 2XI v Cardiff Medics 3XI
On a cold November morning Carmarthen 2XI travelled to Cardiff to face the Cardiff Medics 3XI in a league match.
Carmarthen started strong with midfielders Lucy Davies, Kate Howell, Mari Davies and Rhian Moremon creating many chances for the forwards to score, however despite the efforts they were unsuccessful. This positive start allowed Carmarthen to create lovely play with Scarlett Mackenzie-Jones and Tirion Evans working well out on the left wing to move the ball up the pitch which created promising play. Carmarthen kept this strong attacking play up with multiple short corners gained but were denied any goals by Medics strong defence and goal keeper. Medics had a few breaks in the first half but defenders Kate Williams, Leia Thomas, Marianne Spratt and Elinor Routley kept as a strong unit in the back to deny Medics into Carmarthen’s ‘D’ as well as supporting goal keeper Lowri Davies in her debut for the 2nd’s. Carmarthen kept driving in the final minutes of this half and were unlucky not to go ahead after a despite short corner strike from Ffion Wyn Jones was denied and ending the first half goalless, 0-0.
After an inspiring half time talk by captain Charlotte Harries, Carmarthen were rearing to go in the second half. Dominating the majority of the half Carmarthen had many chances to score as all members of the team worked hard to keep the pressure on Medics with a strong press and great linking play. After constant attacking from Carmarthen with Bethany James sending the ball into the ‘D’, it allowed Scarlett to get a touch on the ball and score, unfortunately the goal was disallowed leaving the team frustrated but hungry to score. Therefore for the remainder of the second half Carmarthen showed strength and determination as they dominated the half. The game finished in a draw with Medics solid defence denying Carmarthen the win despite the away side being the stronger team, 0-0.
Carmarthen awarded their man of the match to Mari Davies for her excellent determination and feisty play throughout the match, driving Carmarthen on.
Cardiff Medics awarded their man of the match to Scarlett Mackenzie-Jones for her ability to create opportunities for Carmarthen during the game as well as an unlucky disallowed goal.
Carmarthen 2XI will train hard this week to ensure that they are ready for their Challenge Cup Tournament on Sunday in Swansea.
